Programs & Initiatives
Empowering Underprivileged Families & Strengthening Communities through stabilization, skills, and care outreach.
When rent notices, medical leave, or sudden job loss hit a Lexington household, HOPE stages emergency grocery support, short-term bill mediation, and one-to-one money coaching. We also historically staged meal trays for Town of Lexington Police, Lexington County EMS, and hospital teams during community crises — because first responders and families often share the same hard week.
Schedule: Family intakes weekdays 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; crisis meal-pack staging Tuesday mornings; follow-up coaching calls by appointment.
Eligibility: Lexington County and nearby households facing food insecurity, eviction risk, utility shutoff, or documented medical/job interruption. First-responder meal support is coordinated through partner liaisons, not walk-up requests.
How to participate: Submit an intake note via our contact form or email admin@hopescheros.org with household size, ZIP code, and the most urgent need. A board volunteer reviews weekday messages.
Digital skills labs, resume clinics, and employer introductions help workers restart after layoffs. Sessions often include coffee, loaner laptops, and quiet help printing applications — small details that keep people from walking out before the hour ends.
Schedule: Saturday morning workshops (announced by email); midweek resume clinics as volunteer capacity allows; employer intro tables quarterly.
Eligibility: Adults seeking re-entry to work, career shifts, or basic digital skills. Priority for households already in stabilization support or referred by Lexington-area partners.
How to participate: Choose “Job & skills workshop”on the contact form or ask to join the volunteer/workshop list. Bring a flash drive or note the email you use for applications.
Nutrition check-ins, companionship visits, and after-school mentoring keep isolated seniors and youth connected to meals, health reminders, and safe activities. Mentors help teens believe next semester is still theirs — Chromebooks borrowed, homework tables set, rides arranged when we can.
Schedule: After-school mentoring tables on select weekdays; senior companionship visits by appointment; nutrition check-ins aligned with Tuesday packing when kits are available.
Eligibility: Youth needing academic or social mentoring; seniors needing wellness check-ins or meal connection in the Lexington area. Caregivers and school/faith partners may refer.
How to participate: Request “Youth or senior outreach”through intake. Program & Outreach Director Clara W. Vance coordinates volunteer matching once capacity is confirmed.
Intake Pathway
We keep the path short so a hard week does not become a scavenger hunt.
Share name, best contact, ZIP code, and the urgent need — food, bill mediation, workshop, or youth/senior outreach.
Messages to admin@hopescheros.org are reviewed on weekdays 9–4 by Principal Officer Walter Hutto or a designated volunteer.
We confirm eligibility, available slots, and whether grocery cards, coaching, workshops, or mentoring fit best.
Attend the agreed pickup, call, or table. Follow-up notes keep the next bill or school week from becoming another crisis.

“The Tuesday grocery card meant my kids ate without me choosing between the light bill and the pantry. Someone from HOPE called back the same week.”

“Saturday resume clinic fixed my LinkedIn and my confidence. I walked out with three applications ready and a borrowed laptop still open on the table.”

“My nephew's mentor kept showing up after school. Grades were not magic overnight, but he stopped saying next semester was already lost.
